"I'd rather be a pig than a fascist."

The first time I heard this song, I was deeply attracted by the prelude of only four bars - it seemed to start brightly and openly, but gradually became deeper after several turns; the harmony that followed seemed to touch the It touches the most inexplicable thoughts in the deepest part of one's heart, and when they are still unresolved, it lets go of everything and suddenly rises to a higher level; while the unfinished aftertaste is left to the last dominant chord, waiting for the singer to slowly tell the story.

"Occasionally, let's talk about the old days, when we were in that coffee shop we often went to, where we could see the familiar trees by the window, and we would order a cup of coffee and spend the whole day there..."

This song is the ending theme of Hayao Miyazaki's animation "Porco Rosso". "Porco Rosso" was released in 1992 and has long held the title of Japan's highest-grossing animated film.

"Porco Rosso" was originally positioned as a purely entertaining animation with a length of 45 minutes, which was intended for passengers to watch on airplanes to relax.

"It will appeal to children and middle-aged women, but we must not forget that it is a film designed for middle-aged men whose brains have turned to tofu," Miyazaki wrote in a 1991 memo.

But man proposes, God disposes, and God disposes, Hayao Miyazaki disposes. During the production process, Porco Rosso gradually deviated from the original production blueprint, adding satire on fascism, anti-war ideas, and a beautiful love story. It was originally an in-flight movie to entertain passengers, but it turned into a 90-minute feature animation.

Yes, it's very Miyazaki.

One of the few things that is consistent with the original intention of animation production is that the middle-aged male protagonist's confusion, disgust, pursuit, and reconstruction of self-worth in the animation can still move the middle-aged male audience whose brains have turned to tofu.

More than 30 years have passed, and I am a little surprised that "Porco Rosso" is still the number one film in the hearts of some Hayao Miyazaki fans, regardless of gender or age.

Thanks to this guitar arrangement opportunity, I was able to reconnect with this wonderful animation. Although my brain has not only turned into tofu, but is probably about to turn into tofu pudding, fortunately my ability to compose music has not been affected. I hope everyone can listen to this piece, enjoy the moment of each note, drink some coffee, and talk about the past...
